Our Facilities

The Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine is pleased to announce that it has acquired the 46,000 sq. ft. Columbia Square building located at 435 Columbia Street in New Westminster , which also provides access to the Columbia Street Sky Train Station. This acquisition enables the Institute to expand its campus by occupying about half the building, in order to accommodate its growing enrollment of approximately 85 naturopathic medical students expected for the 2005/2006 academic year. Established in 2001, the Boucher Institute is Western Canada 's only initially approved college of naturopathic medicine, offering a four year, 5,000 hour program of post-graduate training culminating in a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine diploma. This new campus will provide the Institute with over 20,000 square feet of contiguous newly renovated space for modern classrooms, expanded library facilities, teaching labs, an expanded teaching clinic, administrative offices and student activities.

Our Library

Our new library is a light and airy room with computers, wireless access, and many carrels and tables for both quiet study and group work. Our librarian has an extensive medical background and is highly knowledgeable about medical literature research using the important electronic databases from major medical resources around the world, including those of the U.S. National Institutes for Health. She provides tutorials on how to use these resources as well as those of the four medical library branches of the University of British Columbia , the second largest research library in Canada .

Currently our library holdings and resources include the following:

•  A collection of over 5300 books, videotapes and audiocassettes.

•  Numerous periodicals on acupuncture, alternative and complementary therapies, Traditional Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, and herbal medicine, in both print and on-line.

•  Four homeopathic software programs on the computers.

•  An extensive list of free electronic resources useful for all medical students, doctors and health professionals.

•  Dynamed and AMED electronic databases that are accessible both in school and at home.

•  Free remote access to Ebsco's AltHealthWatch and eCPS data- bases via the Vancouver Public Library.

•  BINM was chosen to be the recipient of the collection of the Tzu Chi Institute for alternative health research and treatment when it lost its funding and had to close its doors. We also have recently acquired a sizeable collection of nutrition books which will be added to the collection.

BNSA operates the school bookstore, organizes fundraisers and actively recruits and encourages students to get involved in enhancing student life at BINM.
