About the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine
Located in the heart of New Westminster, British Columbia, and just 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver, the Boucher (pronounced Boo-shay) Institute of Naturopathic Medicine is Western Canada’s only naturopathic medical school accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education.
Recognized for our small class sizes and collaborative model of learning, the Boucher Institute offers students a rigorous four-year program, which culminates in a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) designation.
While we offer students the highest standard of education, we also strive to preserve a community that is founded on principles of inclusion, integrity, safety, respect, academic freedom, self-responsibility, innovation and sustainability. In short, we endeavour to create a community in which each member feels heard, valued and supported on the journey of self-discovery and academic exploration.
Our academic philosophy strives to incorporate principles of research based learning theory, conventional academic wisdom, and creativity within a mentorship-like context. Mentorship is about people learning from each other. It is a nurturing process that allows more experienced students and instructors to share their professional knowledge and expertise with those who are less experienced. Mentors help our students to reach their learning potential by guiding and encouraging them to excel and grow. Through mentorship, students gain insight into new skills and knowledge through example and support.
Our graduates are leaders in the field of naturopathic medicine, continuously exhibiting a strong commitment to self-reflection, a passionate belief in the value of complementary medicine and a commitment to leading our world toward sustainable health.
The Boucher Institute is also home to the Boucher Naturopathic Medical Clinic. Providing first-rate natural health care for the whole family, the clinic equips our clinic interns with essential hands-on experience in the art and science of practicing naturopathic medicine. The Boucher Institute also proudly partners with four external community clinics which enable students to gain experience treating different patient groups using a range of treatment modalities.
