The Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine SocietyThe Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine Society provides direction and leadership for the Boucher Institute. The Board of Governors ensures that the goals of the Boucher Institute are consistent and applicable for a naturopathic medical school. The Board consists of members from both within and outside the naturopathic profession. At least nine but not more than fifteen governors shall be appointed and ratified by the membership at an annual general meeting of the Society.

Kate MacLeod Wetherell, Chair
Kate Wetherell started her professional life as a Chartered Accountant. A familial connection lured her to California, where she spent over 25 years in various business and finance roles in the higher education sector. She has done budgeting and financial reporting for $200+million operations. Kate resides in Powell River, where her financial and budget acumen supports exciting and original projects with the potential to diversify and enrich the local economy. Her area of expertise are capital/operational budgeting, capital planning, financial strategist.
Mason Bennett, CA, Treasurer
Having a Naturopath as a father (Peter Bennett, ND), Mason has a unique perspective and a great appreciation for the Naturopathic profession and alternative medicine. Mason is a Chartered Accountant at MacKay LLP, helping private companies navigate their financial responsibilities and goals. He brings a strong business and financial background to the Board
Michael Schanz, BSc, MBA, President
Michael Schanz was appointed as President of the Boucher Institute in September 2015. He is an experienced CEO and has direct operational experience spans the retail and business banking, wealth management, investment banking, agricultural, industrial and pharmaceutical industries. Mr. Schanz received a BSc from McGill University, and an MBA from Concordia University in Montreal. He is also a Certified Executive Coach.
Kelly Fujibayashi, ND, Faculty Representative
Kelly is a former Boucher student and long time faculty member in the Academics Department. She currently holds the title of Associate Dean of Education and works closely with our Dean of Education to help develop both curriculum and class schedules. In addtion Kelly continues to teach BioMed courses to Boucher students. She is a respected member of the Boucher faculty and plays a key role in ensuring that the Board considers all of the faculties needs.
Heidi Standeven, Student Representative
Briana is the voice of Boucher students on the board, ensuring that their needs are being considered and that they help shape the school's policies and goals. The student representative is elected by the entire student body and serves for one academic year.
David Duizer, ND
Dr. Duizer is the co-founder and Medical Director of DAMYHealth.com an Online Health and Wellness Centre, co-developer of The Healthy Rebel App and a practicing Naturopathic Doctor at the Finlandia Health Centre in Vancouver, BC. He completed his undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Psychology as part of the Regular Officer Training Program (ROTP) at the Royal Military College of Canada and subsequent Naturopathic Physician diploma at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. As a former Canadian military officer, current digital entrepreneur and local practicing Naturopathic Doctor Dr. Duizer brings a passion for integrative medicine, leadership, new media and business to the BINM Board and looks to positively impact the future development of Naturopathic Medicine as a profession.
Clyde Jensen, PhD
Dr. Jensen holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology and physiology. He is distinguished as the only person to have served as a leader and professor in colleges of allopathic medicine, osteopathic medicine, naturopathic medicine, oriental medicine, and chiropractic. He is on the Board of Directors at American College of Healthcare Sciences and has served as a public member of the Council on Chiropractic Education and currently serves as a public member of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.
Steve Siblock graduated from McMaster University and spent eleven years in public college/university administration and the Ministry of Education at Queen's Park, Toronto. He has held operational management positions at several colleges and universities as an assistant and associate registrar, specializing in student information systems, student records, examinations, academic calendar development, admissions, course scheduling/timetabling, and enrollment reporting. After moving to BC, he continued supporting post-secondary education working for the Ministry of Advanced Education and the University of British Columbia, and was the Ministry's accreditation officer for the Boucher Institute when the school attained its initial accreditation.He brings to the Board many years of experience in institutional governance, accreditation, information systems, performance reporting, and student-centered operations of large educational institutions.
