External Community Clinics

In addition to our on-site teaching clinic, the Boucher Institute's clinic interns also operate out of four external community clinics across B.C. - the Vancouver-based Friends for Life Society, BC's Positive Living Society,  and the Victoria-based Family Naturopathic Clinic.

Our external teaching sites enable students to gain experience treating different patient groups using a range of treatment modalities. They also speak to the Boucher Institute's commitment to servicing communities in need by delivering quality, patient-centered care and support to individuals who may otherwise have limited or no opportunity for access to such services. Health education, wellness-focused health promotion, chronic disease management, and primary naturopathic care are few of the ways that our naturopathic doctors and student practitioners are making a difference.

The Vancouver Friends for Life Society

1 Focusing on a holistic approach to healing, the Vancouver Friends for Life Society offers a diverse range of programs and services free of charge to people living with cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses. The non-profit Friends For Life Society provides services to over 1,500 members through more than 60 programs including massage therapy, naturopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Reiki, music therapy, meditation and nutritional planning.

Positive Living BC

2 With more than 4,800 HIV+ members, Positive Living BC is Western Canada's largest AIDS service organization. Dedicated to empowering persons living with HIV/AIDS, Positive Living BC provides its members with support and advocacy services, as well as treatment information. The organization's naturopathic clinic offers people living with HIV/AIDS supervised student clinic sessions, where Boucher Institute student clinicians work with members one-on-one, free of charge.

The Family Naturopathic Clinic (Victoria, B.C.)

3 Under the umbrella of the Victoria-based Acacia Integrated Health Clinic, the Family Naturopathic Clinic is a joint project of the Young Parents Support Network, Acacia Integrative Health, Dr. Amy Gilchrist ND, Dr. Kristin Schnurr ND, and the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. Providing a range of naturopathic health-care services free of charge to young parented, low-income families, the clinic is the only one of its kind in Canada.
